I earned my bachelor's in English literature specializing in creative writing at Michigan State University. I minored in both Japanese and linguistics. I'm currently working towards certification to teach math, English literature, and Japanese to middle schoolers. I have experience tutoring fourth through 12th grade students in English, math, reading, ACT prep, and study skills. As a tutor, I work to provide each student with the tools needed to grow as a student. In math, I work well with students who struggle with the abstract aspects of the subject. I enjoy strengthening the student's mathematical skills and conceptual foundation. I can work with students to improve their vocabulary skill for the ACT reading section, prepare them for their college English essay assignments, and help them improve their grasp of Japanese phonics through engaging tutoring sessions. By working to understand the student's weak areas, strengths, motivations, and goals, I can support their academic needs using strategies that optimize their educational improvement. I use a variety of visual, tactile, and verbal examples to enhance learning. In my free time, I love to read and watch television. I often study new languages to improve my skills. I spend a lot of time baking and playing with my pets.
